WRNC invites wildlife rehabilitators, veterinarians, vet techs and associated wildlife professionals to attend its 11th symposium.  The symposium is being held at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh on January 25 - 27, 2013.  

In addition to general sessions appropriate for all rehabilitators, there is a track of sessions for beginning rehabilitators. There is a track of sessions that is approved for veterinary CE credit and and a track approved for vet techs. A variety of workshops are offered. Many sessions are appropriate for more than one track. All sessions are open to everyone. Please note that the program is subject to change.

Your registration fee covers the banquet Saturday evening* and lunch both days.

Keynote Speaker

Don't miss the keynote presentation at the Banquet titled 'The Wildlife Equivalent to Putting a Man on the Moon'. Walt Sturgeon, retired deputy director of the NC State Museum of Natural Sciences and expert on arctic nesting birds and cranes, will share his experiences in the Operation Migration program that teaches endangered whooping cranes to migrate.
 
     
 

Registration

The registration fee is $80 for registrations made by January 14 and $90 after January 14. A place at the banquet is not available for those registering after January 21. There is an additional $5 fee for each lab taken. We are using the Office of Continuing Education at NCSU to process our registrations. Your 2013 membership is included in the registration fee. You first enter membership information on this site and then you are transferred to the CE Office site to continue to registration for the symposium.

Online registration will be open through Monday, January 21. It will be closed after Monday, but you may come and pay your registration fee at the door.

Workshops/Labs

There is a $5 fee for each lab taken. This fee helps cover the cost of supplies used in the lab.You are required to select and pay for labs when you register. Please read the descriptions of the labs in the session abstracts before deciding on the labs that you wish to take. We encourage everyone to sign up for labs with care. The lab fee is non-refundable if you later change your mind. Also, if you select a lab and then don't attend, you may keep someone else who wanted to attend from doing so.

Seats in labs are reserved on a first come first serve basis. Register early to insure placement in the labs of your choice.

We recommend that beginners and rehabilitators who have had little or no formal training take the following:

Banquet
Enjoy great food and lots of fellowship at our catered banquet Saturday evening. The banquet is held at the Doubletree by Hilton. It starts at 7:30 pm. The cost is included in your registration fee if you register by January 14. A place at the banquet is not guaranteed for those registering after January 14.

 
     
 

Symposium Scholarships

Two scholarships, that cover the symposium attendance fee and hotel lodging* are available for WRNC members with financial need.  To apply send a letter explaining how you expect to benefit from the symposium and why financial assistance to attend is needed.  Send the letter to WRNC, PO Box 2844, Durham, NC 27715.  Applications must be postmarked no later than January 1, 2013. Please include "Symposium Scholarship" on your letter.  For additional information contact Jean Chamberlain at jean@ncwildliferehab.org

*Lodging will be provided only if scholarship is awarded to applicant residing one hour or more from symposium location.

Anyone found in violation of this policy will be asked to leave the symposium immediately, with no refund of monies paid.
