Beginner Wildlife Rehabilitation
WRNC is offering weekend Beginner Wildlife Rehabilitation classes. We are trying to identify areas of the state where a wildlife rehabilitation class is not currently available and where we can help build the local network. Wildlife Rehabilitation - Basics through Advanced Skills
Wildlife Rehabilitation; Part I (basic fundamentals) will prepare for entry level and intern positions in nature centers, wildlife centers and animal sanctuaries and meet the requirement for specific training needed to apply for the NC State Wildlife Rehabilitation permit. Students must be 16 years old to be eligible to attend. Part II(intermediate and advanced level skills) will build on the skills learned in Part I and focuses on Avian Rehabilitation. This portion will count toward getting required hours for applying for Federal Migratory Bird Permit. Total class length: 40 classes, 120 hours total, 21 weeks long. Certificate provided upon completion. First two classes are always held at CCCC location in Jacksonville, NC and remainder of classes held on location at Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary in Hubert, NC. Fee: $175

ARC
The Animal Rehabilitators of the Carolinas (ARC) is offering a 2 day class for new volunteers on July 31st and Aug.1st in the Charlotte area. ARC is a nonprofit group dedicated to the care and release of orphaned and injured wildlife in NC and SC within a 50-mile radius of Charlotte. To be a volunteer with ARC, no previous experience is necessary, but volunteers must be 18 years old or older and complete all two days of training. There is a $75.00 fee for the 2 day class which includes your wildlife manual, and your first year membership with ARC. Classes cover basic care and feeding of wildlife, release criteria and species-specific training. To sign up for the classes contact: Wanda Jolley at (704) 506-1699. Wildlife Rehabilitation for Raptors
The American Wildlife Refuge is offering Wildlife Rehabilitation for Raptors classes through Wake Technical Community College. The course has been approved by the NC Vet board for Veterinarians continuing education credits, and is taught by a fully licensed rehabber. The course includes 5 classroom evening sessions, once per week, 2.5 hours each night and 4 Sunday afternoon labs. The class includes sections on raptor recognition and behavior; capturing and handling raptors; basic triage and field emergency care; health and maintenance care; facility requirements; laws, licenses, paperwork; and more. Registration is done through Wake Technical Community College in the continuing education division. Completion of this course gains a certificate for 12.5 hours of class and 8 hours of hands on experience for use in obtaining federal and state licensing.
